Thank you, Mark (blush)! I discuss the gendered/unisex nature of the Space :1999 costumes very briefly in the section on designer Rudi Gernreich in "Sex and Unisex". But I don't get into their significance in terms of rank or department. There is, of course, a universe of fan sites that include stuff about the badges.
